Eye & Tissue Recovery Technician

Responsibilities: Recover musculoskeletal, cardiovascular, skin and other tissues on a per diem basis under the supervision of an Eye and Tissue Recovery Technician Team Leader. Responsible for aseptic surgical tissue procurements, donor reconstruction, tissue packaging at recovery and shipping post-recovery. Must have availability to participate in 24 hour call schedule and meet all related requirements.

Requirements: Associates degree or higher in Life Sciences. Experience in the health/science field such as ophthalmic technician, funeral home director, emergency medical technician, surgical technologist or one year hospital experience in a clinical area; or one year eye bank experience; or one year experience in tissue banking. Knowledge of human anatomy is preferred. Must have a valid driver’s license and reliable transportation.

Full Time Eye and Tissue Recovery Team Lead

‚ÄčThis is a full time, exempt position at the Central New York Eye and Tissue Bank in Syracuse. The schedule for this position consists of 4, 12 hour variable call shifts per week.

Job Summary:

Manage the recovery team and all case related activities during the time of the donation.  Recover musculoskeletal, ocular, cardiovascular, skin and other tissue as required. Responsible for the medical record review and suitability determination of the donor, the aseptic surgical recovery of the tissue, packaging and shipping of tissue at recovery and post-recovery (if applicable). Responsible for the completion of all data entry into the electronic donor record, as well as all other case related paperwork.
  • HS Diploma required.
  • Associates degree or higher in Life Sciences or related field desired.
  • Experience in:
  • Healthcare/medical field, or
  • one year of hospital experience in a clinical area, or
  • one year eye banking experience, or
  • one year tissue banking experience
  • Managerial or supervisory experience preferred.
  • Anatomy and physiology required.
  • Medical terminology and/or familiarity with medical diagnosis, medical record review strongly preferred.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, written and verbal communication skills required, including communicating with diverse individuals.
  • Must be able to supervise, delegate, coach and motivate staff in a collaborative team environment.
  • Must be adaptable and flexible to change with the ability to think critically in solving problems with a continuous focus on customer service.
  • Proficiency in data entry required.
  • Must be detail oriented, and have the ability to remain accurate while under pressure.
  • Must be results oriented, and highly organized with the ability to think logically, manage time effectively, prioritize and multi-task.
  • Must be able to remain professional in making decisions and handling confidential information.
  • Must have patience and maintain focus through interruptions and emotional stress.
  • Must be self-motivated and reliable.
  • Must have a valid NYS Drivers license and reliable transportation.
  • Travel required.
  • Must have the availability to meet the demands of the on-call schedule.
